Editing Assignment

For this assignment, we had to create 5 different videos that demonstrated contrast, parallelism, symbolism, simultaneity, leitmotif. We first started by filming all of our scenes. We created them in class by brainstorming different ideas to demonstrate each editing style. We dod contrast and how the scenes go from happy to very stressed and intense in seconds. With parallelism, we faded the phone call from going from one perspective to another one in the same scene. With symbolism, we used a ring to symbolize a like occurrence that had happened. It emphasized the joy and happiness of the scene. The light-hearted music in the back also provides it with more emotion and joy. With simultaneity, we used someone working hard and someone being lazy to demonstrate this. Two different/opposite thing’s happening in the same scene. Lastly, with leitmotif, we used the suspense of the countdown to show the rush and determination to get the surprise completed in time. We then edited all the scenes together with their title covers and sounds.

Mood Board

On my mood board, I put dark colors, abandoned houses, and woods. This serves as inspiration to our film by showing the mood and setting of our film and how we are planning to accomplish this opening. I worked with a group and we all made our own mood boards but I picked out the woods pictures and color theme of our film.

Editing

This week, our primary focus was on the editing process, which is one of the most challenging aspects of our project since it could determine our entire film. It was my first time ever editing a major project like this, but youtube and peers helped me with using Canva to put out film together and come to life. We reviewed all the trimmed videos we went through and added sound elements to make sure met our expectations before shifting our attention to transitions. We incorporated various transitions between clips to avoid abrupt cuts, utilizing techniques such as fades, dissolves, and swipes to enhance the film's visual appeal and fluidity. This addition effectively addressed the flow issue we identified last week and was crucial for improving the opening sequence.
